The Golden Fleece Cricket Club was originally based at the Golden Fleece Pub in Shaw, just outside of Melksham but since 2013 play all their home fixtures at their new ground at Haines Croft in Whitley. The club was founded in 1985 by a group of local men who transformed the current field from pasture to a very pretty cricket pitch that is a favourite fixture for many of the local clubs.
Membership is open to all and the club plays friendly fixtures both home and away on most Sundays and Wednesdays throughout the cricket season.
Annual Awards Ceremony
The annual awards ceremony is open to the members of the club and is an opportunity to hand out the awards for not just the best batsmen and bowlers but also the hardest working members of the club as well as the highly coveted “Spit the Dummy” trophy.
The awards ceremony is held in October at the end of the season.
The Christmas dinner is open to all members, friends and family of the cricket club and it is a great evening out for everyone associated with the club.
Race Nights, Curry Nights, Rugby Days/Nights and Quiz Nights
During the close season, the club organise regular fundraising events so there’s always something going on.
The club participates in the 6-a-side indoor cricket at Sheldon School in Chippenham. The matches are played across the close season on a Sunday afternoon.
Return to Cricket
The club holds indoor nets and coaching sessions for new and old players at the excellent facilities provided by Oak Melksham School. The nets start in March and continue up to the start of the season. You can find out more by visiting this page.
