The new season is underway. Although a damp couple of weeks has meant the cancellation of 3 fixtures, we have played 2, winning one and losing the other.
The first fixture was away at Erlestoke. On a firm but lifeless pitch we struggled to make 125 thanks to a spirited 19 from Neil Morton and 36 from Mr. Extras. In reply Erlestoke were also in difficulty at 65-6. Ben Steed started well taking 3 wickets whilst debutant Steve Gibson bowled a very economical 8 overs. However, two batsmen managed to stay together and Erlestoke scored the required runs with 2 wickets and 3 overs left.
The win was at home against Bishop’s Cannings. A hastily rearranged game meant playing on a very damp Fleece wicket. That didn’t prevent Bishop’s Cannings reaching 135-6 from their 20 overs. Duncan Hewett took 2 wickets on his debut. After a shaky first over The Fleece batted extremely well to reach 136-2 with 3 overs to spare. Howard Fountain (38) and Toby Nightingale (87 n.o.) put on 122 for the second wicket.
If you haven’t already done so, time is running short to prepare for this year’s tournament on Saturday June 9th. Entry is open to all, with only pride to be played for. There will be a barbecue on site to enhance proceedings. You may come along as a team or individuals can be put together on the day.
